IT'S TIME TO “JUST SAY NO” TO CITY HALL.

The City Council has put on the ballot four issues for more government gravy. Apparently, they did not pay attention to last November's results, in which all three statewide tax increases and the county's $75 million sales tax increase (shared with the city) were decisively crushed. We know raising taxes in a depression is REALLY DUMB and will only hurt our local economy. Even President Obama canceled his campaign promise to “tax the rich.” Instead, to spur the national economy, the feds have just passed tax cuts! That's what we should be doing, too. Leaving money in the private sector will create jobs; installing a City Hall ATM to dispense to insiders millions paid by these tax hikes will lead only to scandals and wasteful boondoggles.

All four of these city issues undermine the letter and the spirit of TABOR, the Taxpayer's Bill of Rights. All four TABOR attacks should be defeated. They are being put on this city election ballot (14% voter turnout two years ago) so self-interested city employees can be a bigger share of the total votes cast, and cancel out your vote against this fiscal recklessness.

  • $51+ MILLION PROPERTY TAX INCREASE--ISSUE 1A

Let's take the easiest case first. Many of its arguments also apply to other issues.

Ballot issue 1A demands $3.2 million yearly in higher city property taxes. That is a 15.5% annual property tax hike for more GOVERNMENT BAILOUTS. Over the 16 years of this tax increase, that will cost taxpayers $51+ million (plus inflation) in higher taxes. Is that what you want? NO. HELP US STOP BAILOUT BALLOT ISSUE 1A.
